AEA Announces NUVO Flight, a Full-Range Active Ribbon Microphone Kit

Featuring the N22, N13, and N8 active ribbon microphones for near-field, mid-field, and far-field recording

Pasadena, California, April 15, 2026 — AEA Ribbon Mics announces the NUVO Flight, a bundled ribbon microphone kit that brings together the N22, N13, and N8 active ribbon microphones designed to cover a wide range of recording applications.

The NUVO series represents AEA’s modern approach to ribbon microphone design, combining traditional ribbon character with active electronics, higher output, and a compact, durable form factor. The NUVO Flight Kit brings these three models together in a single package for flexible use across studio and live environments.

The kit includes:

  • N22 (Near-field) — Designed for close miking from 1 to 18 inches, with reduced proximity effect and extended top-end clarity. Well suited for vocals, guitar amps, and percussion where detail and control are needed up close.
  • N13 (Mid-field) — A newer addition to the NUVO line, featuring a 1.2-micron ribbon for enhanced transient response. Optimized for sources at working distance such as drum overheads, acoustic instruments, and strings.
  • N8 (Far-field) — Built for capturing the natural sound of a space, maintaining low-end and top-end detail from distances of 12 inches to over 20 feet. Commonly used for room miking, ensembles, and orchestral applications.

All three microphones share AEA’s active ribbon design, including phantom-powered electronics, high SPL handling, and consistent output across a wide range of preamps. The system is designed to move easily between studio and live environments, with a compact form factor and durable construction.

The NUVO Flight ships in a rugged flight case with custom-molded foam, making it suitable for both studio sessions and touring applications. The kit is available now for $3,399 USD through authorized AEA dealers.
